Some of the problems

Stakeholders of the Codorus Creek are blessed with a variety of ground and surface water resources that contribute to the aesthetic, health, economic, and environmental well-being of the watershed.

Codorus Creek has:
  • 278 square mile drainage area
  • 447 miles of streams
  • 3 major reservoirs and many small ponds
  • ~20,000 acres of freshwater wetlands

These water resources provide recreational opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, picnicking, and other outdoor activities.

Our water resources are beautiful and give us pleasure. However, we also rely on surface and groundwater resources for drinking and other uses.

In the Codorus, it is estimated that recreational activities contribute $3 million a year to the local economy.

In addition to recreational and economic benefits, Codorus' aquatic resources provide for a diversity of plants and wildlife.
