Public Meeting Notice

Source Water Protection Meetings Scheduled for York County

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will conduct four public meetings in late October to discuss Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) projects for selected public drinking water intakes in Bedford, Huntingdon, Lancaster and York Counties. Through the SWAP project, SRBC will identify areas contributing water to the public water systems, inventory potential sources of contamination and establish the susceptibility of these public water systems to pollutants. The information collected from the following public meetings will be used to develop assessment reports for the public water systems:

  • Oct. 30, 7 p.m. at the West Manchester Township Building, 380 East Berlin Road, York. The drinking water intakes to be discussed are operated by the York Water Company and the Spring Grove Water Company. The York Water Company has one intake on the South Branch Codorus Creek in York County. The Spring Grove Water Company operates two intakes-the main one on the Codorus Creek in Spring Grove and the second one on the Powder Mill Creek.

The 1996 federal Safe Drinking Water Act requires states to assess all sources of drinking water that service public water systems for their susceptibility to pollution. SRBC is conducting the public meetings and will prepare the SWAP reports under a contract with DEP.
